JOB TITLE:                 Plant Operator

TEAM:                       Plant

REPORTS TO:            Plant Team Leader

 

JOB PURPOSE:         

  1. Under general supervision, perform skilled work operating plant in any maintenance, construction, excavation or haulage work as detailed by the Team Leader.

  1. To carry out stevedore duties as a core function which includes operating  etc , which involves working a 12-hour shift and at times, weekends Stevedoring.

 

MAIN DUTIES:

  1.    To operate and drive plant including, but not limited to, wheeled loader including JCB backhoe, forklift de-mountable lorry, bulldozer, road roller, cranes, tracked excavators, graders, lifting equipment Merlo cement mixer and 6 tonne tipper truck.

  2.    To work from drawings and markers under the direction of supervisors.

 

3.    To prepare plant for transporting/operations.

4.    To service plant and equipment by cleaning, lubricating and re-fuelling it and make minor adjustments and repairs when necessary.

5.    To assist with the construction & maintenance of: sports fields, roads, sewer lines etc.

6.    To assist with collection & disposal of refuse and any other hazardous waste if required.

7.    Collect and bury animal carcasses and dig graves as and when required.

8.    To carry out Stevedore and other ship duties as a core function, which involves:

·         Working a 12-hour shift and weekend working when required.

·         Working on the pierhead or barges or on a vessel (team members rotate these locations).

·         Physical outdoor work for long periods, including potentially being at sea for much of the day

·         Rope handling

9.    To undertake any other related duties as required by the Team Leader.   

 

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

. To comply with all relevant Health & Safety processes, procedures and instructions.

·         Responsible for own safety and that of others when using plant.

·         Responsible for plant and equipment used at work.

·        To attend any training course which AIG specify in the further development of jobholder’s role.

  • To provide high standards of customer service when dealing with members of the public, other sections of AIG or external organisations.

  • To ensure that any usage of AIG vehicles is compliant with the vehicle usage policy, including reducing unnecessary journeys and maximising vehicle sharing where possible.

 

Job requirements

PERSON SPECIFICATION: Knowledge, skills, experience and personal attributes

 

Essential

·         Must have at least 3 years’ experience as a competent Plant Operator/Driver (which includes operating, maintaining and servicing of such equipment).

·         Must have good concentration skills and able to follow verbal instructions accurately.

·         Must have good hand-eye coordination.

·         Be prepared to learn Health & Safety and other policies adopted by AIG.

·         Must have a careful, methodical and accurate approach to work.

·         Must have a clean valid driving license of classes A, B, C, D & J.

·         Must have the ability to work as part of a team.

·         Must be physically fit and like outdoor work.

·         Must have a strong awareness of safety issues.
