Job description



JOB TITLE: Hydroponics Manager

TEAM: Operations Directorate

REPORTS TO: Operations Manager



  1. To oversee the hydroponics farm site to ensure crop supplies are well maintained; ensuring regular supplies of food of consistent high quality, with crop production managed as efficiently and profitably as possible.
  2. To manage the relationships with suppliers to ensure sufficient supply of equipment and provisions to keep the site operational.
  3. To effectively manage the relationships with retailers and customers.
  4. To supervise and manage the hydroponics youth trainee.
  1. Manage the production cycle of crops at the hydroponics site, including seeding, tending, and harvesting to ensure maximum efficiency of the farm.
  2. Proactively manage and control pests and disease.
  3. Monitoring and adjusting various hydroponic mineral solutions, fertilisers and general water quality for optimising plant growth, and maintain optimum quality in operations to achieve the highest possible food safety and hygiene standards.
  4. Manage the administration for the hydroponics farm site including sales information, efficiency statistics, stock use and management, managing supplies and producing monthly reports.

Manage the customer orders and supplies, producing monthly sales, productivity and efficiency data (electronically).

Ensure that the hydroponics farm and wider site is kept a clean, safe and tidy workspace and that all equipment used is cleaned, maintained and safely stored at all times.


Person Specification


1. Experience growing a range of vine and leafy crops for commercial sale.

2. Knowledge of food safety and hygiene.3. Ability to work independently and to use own initiative.

3. Good communications skills both oral and written.

4. Must be physically fit and like outdoor work in all weather conditions.

5. Must have a strong awareness of safety issues.

6. A clean valid driving licence for class A & B vehicles is essential.


1. Experience in medium – long term crop cycling (6 months – 18 months).

2. Experience maintaining profit and loss accounts records.

3. Experience of using Microsoft Excel.
